Depending on the situation, a person can be sexually aroused by a variety of factors, both physical and mental. A person can be sexually aroused by another person or particular aspects of that person, or a non-human object. Physical stimulation of an erogenous zone or acts of foreplay can lead to excitement, especially if coupled with the anticipation of imminent sexual activity. Sexual arousal can be assisted by a romantic, music or other soothing situation. Potential stimuli for sexual arousal varies from person to person and from one moment to another, as the level of arousal. The stimuli are usually classified according to that question: somatosensory (touch), visual and olfactory (smell). Auditory stimuli are also possible, although they are generally considered secondary in terms of the previous three.

erotic stimuli which can result in sexual arousal may include speaking, reading, movies or pictures or a smell or institution, any of which can generate erotic thoughts and memories of a person. Given the right context, these can lead to the person you want physical contact, including kissing, hugging and touching of the erogenous zones. This in turn can make the sexual desire of direct stimulation of the body parts that would normally be off limits, such as breasts, nipples, buttocks and / or genitals, and sexual activity.

Erotic stimuli can come from a source not connected with the object of sexual interest later. For example, many people may find nude, erotic or sexually arousing pornography, which can generate a sexual interest is satisfied with sexual activity. When sexual arousal is achieved or dependent on the use of objects, referred to as a sexual fetish, or in some cases, a paraphilia. A person can take an active part in sexual activity without arousal.

There is a common belief that women need more time to achieve arousal. However, recent research has shown that there is a considerable difference when men and women need to be fully aroused. Scientists at the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, Canada, used the method of thermal imaging to record baseline temperature changes in the genital area to define the time needed for sexual arousal. The researchers studied the time necessary for a person to reach the peak of sexual arousal while viewing sexually explicit films or pictures and concluded that on average women and men had about the same time for sexual arousal – around 10 minutes. The time for foreplay is very individualistic and varies from one moment to another depending on many circumstances.

Unlike many other animals, humans do not have a mating season, and both sexes are potentially capable of sexual arousal throughout the year.

Models of the human sexual response

During 1950 and 1960, William H. Masters and Virginia E. Johnson conducted many important studies on human sexuality. During 1950 and 1960, William H. Masters and Virginia E. Johnson conducted many important studies on human sexuality. In 1966, launched the Human Sexual Response, detailing four stages of physiological changes in humans during sexual stimulation: excitation, plateau, orgasm and resolution.

The singer is a model of sexual arousal process, in which conceptualizes the human sexual response consists of three separate but sequential components in general. The first stage, the aesthetic response is an emotional reaction to realize an attractive face or figure. This emotional reaction leads to increased attention to the object of attraction, director general, participation and eye movements toward the attractive object. The second stage, the response of focus switches from the first and consists of body movements toward the object. The final step recognizes that the genital response carefully and closer physical reactions result in genital tumescence. Singer also notes that there are a variety of other autonomic responses, but acknowledges that the research literature suggests that genital response is the most reliable and convenient to measure in males.

Sexual arousal in animals

While human sexuality is well known, scientists do not fully understand how other animals relate sexually. However, current research studies suggest that many animals, like humans, enjoy sexual relations are not limited to reproduction. The dolphins and bonobos, for example, are well known to use sex as a “tool to strengthen and maintain social ties. “The behaviorists have documented the extensive exchange of sex to promote group cohesion in social animals. Cementation of social servitude is one of the most prominent theory selective advantages of the theory of group selection. Experts on the evolution of sex such as John Maynard Smith, defender of the idea that the exchange of sexual favors freezing and helps locate the range of the alleles of the isolated population and therefore is potentially a very strong force in evolution. Maynard Smith has also written extensively on the “seminal fluid exchange of the theory of” logistics application for the variety of alleles as a more accurate synthetic representation of Hardy Weinberg equilibrium in cases of interbreeding populations severely.
Evolutionary models

The effect of sexual response is thought to be a plastic modifier reinforcing positive behavior associated with the Baldwin effect. The end result of such things can be very innovative structures such as the Pseudo-penis female spotted hyena. The display of secondary sexual characteristics in humans as an enlarged clitoris-like penis during arousal women and gynecomastia in men are believed to have been the subject of mate selection in human evolution because of the persistence of these features by invoking the sexual excitement of potential helpers in cross-cultural studies. A dramatic example is the high rate of typical secondary sexual dimorphism in some populations of humans in Southeast Asia.

Physiological changes

Sexual arousal causes various physical changes, the most important sex organs. The sexual arousal of a man is usually indicated by swelling and penile erection when blood fills the corpora cavernosa. This is usually the most important and reliable sign of sexual arousal in men. In a woman, sexual arousal leads to increased blood flow [...]

In a woman, sexual arousal leads to increased blood flow to the clitoris and vulva, and vaginal sweating – the infiltration of moisture through the vaginal walls, which serves as lubrication.

Sexual arousal or sexual excitement, is the awakening of sexual desire during or in anticipation of sexual activity. Things that precipitate human sexual arousal are called erotic stimuli, or colloquially known as turn-ons. There are many potential stimuli, whether physical or mental, can cause a person is sexually aroused. Sexual arousal often leads to physiological changes in the awake, some of which are spoken, while others are more subtle.

Sexual arousal can not lead to actual sexual activity, beyond the mental arousal and physical changes that accompany it. Given enough stimulation, sexual arousal in humans typically ends in an orgasm, but the excitement can be pursued for its own sake, even without an orgasm.
